Dramaturg and Executive Producer
Sara is Dramaturg and Executive Producer for 2BU Productions. Recently, she has worked on the 3 podcast ideas we developed, and then Tobias and Syd which we took to full production. Sara is a freelance radio producer, abridger, writer and mentor; before that she worked for twenty years as a Producer and Executive Producer at the BBC. In the last ten years she has been Executive Producer on more than twenty broadcast productions for independent production companies, and produced a number of plays and readings. She has been a dramaturg and script consultant for UK podcast productions (including Silva Lining’s Care Plan), and has mentored several writers and producers new to radio, including for Screen South’s New Creatives scheme, in Ethiopia and Uganda.
She has written drama documentaries for Radio 4, adapted several journals and novels for radio as well as two Shakespeare plays, and adapted Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for theatre. She has abridged well over fifty books as radio readings.
She was a BBC staff producer and senior Producer from 1992 to 2012, the last few years as an Executive Producer on a number of long-running series. She directed around sixty radio dramas and serials, as well as producing and exec producing poetry and arts features and a wide range of readings. Her productions have won two mental Health Media Awards and a gold Features Award. Before becoming a producer at the BBC she worked as a freelance reporter and presenter for radio and television; and wrote feature journalism for The Guardian, The Observer and various magazines.
